Boever, Valerie
$9.95

Valerie Boever was born in Marinette, Wisconsin. She is oldest of four children. Val spent her early childhood and grade school years in Illinois. During much of that time her family lived on five acres with lavish landscaping. This country home provided endless activities for active imaginative children, and fostered a lifetime appreciation for the beauty of nature, trees and flowers. It was during this time her love for dogs developed, with the adoption of several, including a malamute. A fan of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, Val decided to combine her love of literature and education to create the story of Margaret and Midnight: The Alaska Malamute, fashioned after a real young lady and personal friend. Alaska is a wonderful place for a young girl and her dog to live. Margaret and Midnight grow to be the best of friends while learning lessons in life.

Miracle in the Glass

Crosby, Ruthann
$14.95

Miracle in the Glass is the captivating story of a mother and her daughter and their devotion to each other. It captures the heart and soul of the Holocaust; those who did not survive and those who dared to live on. It shows that life is not to be taken for granted. Miracle in the Glass also shows that children are our hope for the future. To save a child is to save the world.

Mrs. Crosby, in her fictional story of a mother's sacrifice for her young daughter, brings to light a unique message hidden in the modern world's most horrific crime against humanity. Often stories of the holocaust are fraught with unspeakable despair and human tragedy. However, Mrs. Crosby, through her tender story, illuminates the effect of the holocaust that forever vanquished the Nazi's hope of destroying the Jewish nation. The holocaust begot a generation of Jews with a stronger and deeper faith in G-d than ever before.

Molly Hootch: I Remember When

Hymes, Molly
$17.95

Everyone in the family, except her mother, was away at fish camp. Her mother, Sophie, stayed in the village of Emmonak awaiting the birth of her second daughter, Molly. Molly was born in the territory of Alaska in the summer of 1956. Alaska would not become a state in the union until 1959. Molly Hootch was born into a family that knew only a subsistence lifestyle along the banks of the lower Yukon River. It was a harsh life by today's standards. Her mother was the typical Native wife. Her father, James, was a fisherman, trapper and hunter. He built dogsleds, boats, snowshoes, and fish traps. Molly, while a young girl, enthusiastically followed her father and observed his lifestyle that made her people Eskimo. He taught her everything she needed to know about living a subsistence existence. From this rugged environment, Molly breathed the Alaska air, loved deeply, lived fully, and studied diligently--and made history! As a teenager, Molly had to leave Emmonak to attend high school in Anchorage. That traumatic departure set off a series of events leading to a class action lawsuit against the State of Alaska Department of Education, called the Molly Hootch Case. The court case settlement resulted in the construction of high schools in Native villages. It made Molly Hootch a household name in Alaska during the last half of the 1970s. She was selected as the most influential person of the decade of the 1970s. She was also honored as the fifteenth most important person since Alaska statehood.
